BACKGROUND
Structural Repairs to the existing mills.
The site is a late 19th century mill, which over the year’s water penetration has caused the existing steel lintels over the 4th floor windows to rust and laminate, which in turn has the effect of lifting the existing brick parapet resulting in it to become unstable.
SCOPE OF WORKS
- Lilac Mill centre tower has been taken down to parapet level due to dilapidation of roof and brickwork.
A new timber and felt roof was constructed at parapet level, complete with stone copings saved from the original.
- Lilac north tower, Briar north tower and Briar verticon roof soffits were repaired with a 2 coat Epigrip M902 concrete repair system followed by 2 coats of emulsion to seal soffit.
Briar Mill high and low level parapet replacement consisted of the following works:-
- Erection of tube and clip scaffold to the east elevation of the mill and erection of scaffold tube and clip 4 storey rubbish chute to the rear.
- Erection of man hoist to rear of building for access to the roof.
- Removal and reconstruction of 132 linear meters of the parapet wall.
- Replacement of defective existing lintels with new galvanised lintels.
